Once a week, we work with students at four sites across Los Angeles. Our constantly evolving curriculum focuses on the basics of storytelling and writing, and we do our best to keep our lessons engaging by incorporating fun games and activities. At the end of each year, we publish the students’ best work into an anthology for each site, and bring them to UCLA for a tour of the campus and an opportunity to share their work with their classmates and the volunteers they worked with throughout the year.
If you are interested in volunteering with us, please send us an e-mail or attend one of our weekly meetings. Our sites for Fall 2017 are all on Fridays at the following times:
7:00 AM – 11:00 AM (John Wooden High School)
10:30 AM – 12:30 PM (Fairburn Elementary School)
11:30 AM – 3:00 PM (Markham Middle School)
1:00 PM – 4:00 PM (Columbus Middle School)
* all times include travel to sites, which we provide
In addition to our weekly programming, we collaborate with fellow UCLA service organizations to bring creative writing to their service recipients with our standalone workshops. If you are interested in collaborating with the Writer’s Den, get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org!
